As we begin the New Year, Kinship Radio is preparing to connect more with listeners like you.
Our hosts, Ryan & Beth, LaDonna, Eric, and Doug look forward to sharing time together with you, interacting with each other, encouraging each other, and praying for each other.
To help us better focus our time with you, we’ve made some refinements to our schedule that include:
  • Family Life Today, normally heard M-F at 10:00am, now moves to 9:30am M-F right after Turning Point
  • Focus On the Family, normally heard M-F at 11:00am, now moves to 12:00 noon M-F right before Truth For Life
The third refinement comes after long deliberation that led us to the discontinuation of Adventures In Odyssey M-F at 6:00pmAdventures in Odyssey has been a staple on Kinship Radio for more than 30 years. Given the show’s producers were producing so few new programs for several years, and given the number of reruns we presently air, we felt that the time was right.
The program is still available on the Adventures in Odyssey website where kids and grandkids can join the Adventures in Odyssey club, and parents and grandparents can grab recorded audio versions for their home library. We’re also including a link to our program schedule page for your easy reference. Simply CLICK HERE and you’ll go right to the updated schedule.
Sincerely,

I’m so very sad about Adventures in odyssey.
It was like a staple… apart of my daily routine.
There’s something special about a radio show and tuning in at a time rather than all the “on demand” podcasts and more that are at everyone’s finger tips these days.

However, I still really appreciate Kinship radio

    • Kinship Radio says:

Agreed, Jason. It is sad, and hard to change routines.

But as we said in the email, with the number of reruns per year (more than 90%), it was time. Our hope over the next year is for Kinship Radio to connect more with our listening family in a local, tangible way. For Kinship Radio to not just survive but thrive in today’s media-soaked world, this change and others allows us to make progress in that direction.

Thank you for your understanding. If I may be of any further assistance, please feel free to reach me at this email address, or by calling Kinship Radio at 800.810.5559.

I am truly saddened that you have decided to remove Adventures in Odyssey I have looked forward to this daily for decades as do my children. We were sad when you removed the Saturday kids programs and to be honest no longer listen much on Saturdays now because of it’s removal.
If you do not have programs for my children what incentive do they have to listen.
Last month in traveling west a day stop at Focus on the Family to visit Whits End was a requirement as part of our trip.

    • Kinship Radio says:

      Brian:

Thank you for your comment. We’ve learned over the years that children – especially elementary age and younger – are dependent on Mom and Dad to keep the routine, but routines are harder than ever to keep what with all the extra curricular activities available.

In response to your question, kids have plenty of incentive to listen to Kinship, especially to the music. We repeatedly hear from parents how kids sing along with the songs we play while Mom and Dad are in the car or at home. Kids are always watching and listening. So keeping Kinship Radio on all the time is a good thing, not just for a half hour.

That’s why we encourage Moms and Dads to check out websites like Adventures In Odyssey and Paws And Tales. My personal favorite is Keys For Kids, with resources for kids pre-school through junior high.

I hope this helps, and thank you for your understanding.

      Sincerely,

Our kids were devastated to find out that Adventures in Odyssey has been canceled in addition to the Saturday morning kids programs. I understand the concern regarding 90% reruns, but there certainly should be something to replace it with that is made for kids on your schedule?

We don’t allow access to the internet or personal devices for the kids, so Kinship radio has been a staple of their routine. They literally have alarms set for 5:55 so that they can get it turned on in time.

I would ask that your team consider replacing Adventures in Odyssey with another similar kids program instead of simply eliminating 100% of your kid based programming.

Thank you for the work you guys are doing!

    • Kinship Radio says:

      Benjamin:

Thank you for listening. And a sincere thank you for your email and for your comments. We get it. And you’re right. We knew that this schedule change would rock a few homes, which made this decision as difficult as it was.

In broadcasting, we think about reaching the broader community. We’ve learned over the years that children – especially elementary age and younger – are dependent on Mom and Dad to keep the routine, but now more than ever, routines are hard to keep with all the extra curricular activities available. Your setting the alarm for your family is an unusual exception to the norm.

I’m sorry this throws a wrench into life with the kids. As a parent of six children myself and now five grands, I know how important routines are, and how important it is they get Christ-centered programming.

I understand you don’t allow access to the internet for the kids – good for you! If I may, is it possible you could use your home computer to stream the show from the Adventures In Odyssey website and have your kids listen that way? Just a suggestion.

If I may also suggest, you may want to check out a great website for all kinds of great children’s programming and music. Keys for Kids is an excellent resource with 24-7 music and programming designed for kids, available for free at the Keys For Kids site.

Our future plans for Kinship Radio does not include bringing back Adventures In Odyssey. I do hope the above resources and suggestions provide a little bit of help for you. If I may be of any further assistance, please feel free to email me or call me directly at 800.810.5559. I’d be more than happy to converse with you.

    Hello,

I wanted to take a moment to share with you how disappointed I am with the removal of Adventures In Odyssey from your programming format. As one who grew up listening to Adventures In Odyssey on KJLY, it has been impactful on my life. When I was younger, I would anticipate getting home from school to listen to Adventures In Odyssey on your radio station every day at 4:30 pm. Every day it was the highlight of my day, especially the days I was bullied in school. My siblings and I were even a part of the Adventures In Odyssey birthday club growing up.

Even in my adult years and someone in their 30’s Adventures In Odyssey has still been a part of my everyday life. Something that I pass on to my 4 kids and encourage them to listen to. When I was going through depression, Adventures In Odyssey was something that I could listen to and find comfort in, even as a rerun episode, it still had an impact.

I still look forward to 6 pm, especially the times I am in the field. Adventures In Odyssey is something that listening to KJLY would help take the stress of the day away.

I know a number of people my age that feel the same way about Adventures In Odyssey. I know this will not change your decision and so be it. But I want to ask this question, what is in your format in the everyday moving forward for kids, youth and young people? Are they not the future? Has the mission statement of KJLY turned to focus only on the older generation? In the world of on-demand and everything instant, it was nice to turn on the radio, especially KJLY and let them listen to something safe and not have to worry about all the other garbage. I get that this will not change your mind. And I will move on and switch my kids to live streaming Adventures In Odyssey.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I truly wish KJLY the best with the future decisions that have been made, I just won’t be listening

      Matt:

Thank you. Sincerely, thank you for your email and for your comments. We get it. And you’re right. Our kids are tomorrow’s hope for the church.

In broadcasting, we have to think about reaching the broader marketplace – children, adults, and seniors. But in today’s world with so many media choices, that’s changed. We’ve learned we cannot be all things to all people. And so, we target a specific “life group” with our programming. Our mission remains the same in directing listeners to Christ, however the methodology in accomplishing that mission may change from time to time.

I’m grateful you’re aware and can have your kids stream Adventures In Odyssey. If I may, you may want to look into a great resource where children’s programming is streamed 24-7. You’ll find it at Keys For Kids (which also includes hard copy devotionals for kids, and a 24-7 stream that includes children’s music and programs like Adventures In Odyssey.

I am saddened by your closing remark that you won’t be listening anymore to Kinship Radio. If that was the only reason you listened to Kinship, then I understand, but we do have programming that is both beneficial and helpful for one’s walk with Christ. Additionally, we have found that several families also enjoy the music we offer. I hope you’ll reconsider as we work to point people to Christ.

If I may be of any further assistance, please feel free to email me or call me directly at 800.810.5559. I’d be more than happy to converse with you.
