Having previously been a newspaper reporter, I continue to experience a morbid fascination with the media in our country. And, since MSN News came pre-loaded on my computer, I was easily sucked into the swirling maelstrom of what passes for “journalism” in this, the land where freedom of the press, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech are chiseled into our national bedrock.
I used to be particularly susceptible to reading the comments below the news stories on MSN, and would even participate in those comments from time to time, particularly when there was an obvious case of, shall we say, “flawed journalism.” A recent example was a news story about a reporter who found headstones from a cemetery “floating” in a Michigan lake. (Yes, they were stone, and no, they were not floating. They were found near shore sitting in the water.)
But, a couple of months ago, all that changed. MSN stopped allowing comments below their articles. They posted a disclaimer, saying something about exploring new ways to allow feed-back, but it now appears the comment section is gone forever.
Luckily for the listeners of Kinship Christian Radio, your local source of news, information, Bible teaching, and Christian music is not nearly so thin-skinned about public input on its day-to-day operations as the mainstream media and actually welcomes your comments!
All during the month of September, Kinship Christian Radio is sending out surveys actually asking for your comments on how the radio station is run. There are 25 questions on the survey asking a variety of questions including when you listen, how you would rate the ministry, ways to improve the ministry, things you like, and even things you don’t like.
And, as Steve Ware and Allen Jones demonstrated live on-air last week, they are fun and easy to use.
What’s more, absolutely anyone is welcome to fill out and return the September Survey, and anyone who returns a completed survey will be entered into a drawing for fabulous prizes including an iPad mini and one of three Echo Dots! (Employees, their families, and writers of this blog are not eligible.)
All you have to do to obtain a September Survey and participate is call Kinship Christian Radio at 507-526-3233 or 1-800-810-5599. You may also request a September Survey by emailing kinship@kinshipradio.org
I plan to fill out a September Survey and, when I do, I will be very sure to mention how very much I appreciate the complete absence of news stories about floating headstones. That ought to have someone in the front office pondering things for awhile.
