Morning Devotional:
Have you ever stopped to consider the various types of fears that are out there? A quick look through a list of unusual phobias is rather enlightening. Take for instance amathophobia. You would think it was a fear of algebra but it’s actually a fear of dust. You won’t find any algebra textbooks in my house but the dust is growing exponentially! And in case you were wondering, there is a name for a fear of numbers or math – that’s arithmophobia.
There are so many times over the course of our lives when we can be easily gripped by fear but in so many of those times, our fears are really unfounded, based on a belief that something can or will cause us harm. In those times, we need to remember the truth – there is no fear in God. It says in 1 John 4:18 that “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.” That perfect love is God.
Whatever you might be afraid of today, whether it’s dust or long division or any other factor of life that’s trying to take your eyes off of God, remember that there is no need to fear. God’s got you in the palm of His hand.
