What Day Is It?

The Burning Question:

It’s World Storytelling Day!  What is the best story you’ve told recently?

Morning Devotional:

How’s your prayer life doing?  It’s a question I asked myself just yesterday afternoon when I heard a pretty astounding statistic. Did you know the average person spends only eight minutes a week in prayer?  Eight minutes per week!  I was stunned but after thinking about it, I wasn’t surprised. I think we fall so very short in this category and it is one I would love to improve in.

Think of what things would be like if we as a people spent more time praying than we did grumbling. It would be a better place, don’t you think? Having a life of prayer is important to a Christian, too – dare I say vital – and it is one Jesus Himself modeled. He would often withdraw to a quiet place to pray to the Father. He would be up all night praying. In the Garden of Gethsemane, under so much stress that blood appeared like sweat on his skin, what was Jesus doing?  He was praying. If the Son of God found it necessary to pray, shouldn’t we as well?

In the book of 1 Thessalonians chapter five we are told to “rejoice always and pray without ceasing.” Things happen when God’s people pray, so let’s do more of it.

What was the song played this morning (3/21) right after the Bible quiz question was announced at 7:10a. It had lyrics of ‘Praise the Lord oh my soul’ and was sung by a male voice.
