What Day is it?

Burning Question: What made you change your mind?

Morning Devotional:

It can feel especially tough to find a job when you’re a teenager. My son Malachi has been trying for a couple of years now. The plan was for him to get a job after he turned 16, and he gave it a solid effort—applying to several places and even landing a few interviews. But last summer, nothing came through.

This year has been a little different. While there were still a few false starts and dead-end applications, something shifted. Malachi is now a year older, quite a bit taller, and—most importantly—he has his own transportation. He just looks more like a “ready-to-work” kind of candidate. And wouldn’t you know it—he finally landed his first job!

As a dad, I’m excited to watch him take this next step—learning responsibility, gaining experience, and hopefully finding some joy in work. But it also reminds me of something deeper: timing matters. God’s timing, in particular.

We can work, plan, and knock on doors, but sometimes we don’t see results right away. It’s easy to get discouraged, to wonder if our effort is in vain. But just like Malachi’s job finally came through at the right time, God has a way of opening doors when we’re ready—and when the time is right.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” —1 Peter 5:6 (NIV)

So if you’re in a waiting season right now, keep trusting. Keep showing up. Just because nothing is happening yet doesn’t mean nothing will. God is preparing you—and the opportunity—so that when it does come, it’s right.
