What Day is it?

Burning Question:

It’s National Waitstaff Day!  What is a memorable story of waiting tables?

Morning Devotional:

I have had my puppy, Abbie, for about two months now and if I were to describe in one word how her training is going, I would have to use the word “challenging.” Abbie is smart, fast, and definitely stubborn!

One thing she has successfully mastered is the use of jingle bells at the door. When she wants to go outside, she rings a string of jingle bells hanging on the doorknob. Whenever I hear it, I stop whatever I am doing and let her out. She may need to do her “business,” or just want to sit in the yard and watch the world go by – either way, when I hear the bells, I make my way to the door to see what she needs.

I have become pleasantly surprised by how well I can hear those bells over the other noise in the house. I can have the TV on in the living room, be on the phone in the bedroom, and my lawn care people can be mowing my lawn just outside the window and if Abbie just taps those jingle bells, I am heading to the door to let her out. You could say Abbie has me trained.

If there is one thing we need to be trained to hear, it is the voice of the Lord. There is a lot of white noise out there and a lot of voices vying for our attention. We as believers need to be able to recognize and follow the voice of our Good Shepherd (John 10:27). Can you hear Him speaking to you? If not, it may mean you need to be training your spiritual ears to listen for him.
