Burning Question:
It’s Farm Worker Appreciation Day! What is a story from down on the farm?
Morning Devotional:
My afternoon and evening yesterday could have been defined as a mad dash. I left work in a rush to get to an appointment, and I didn’t really stop after that. When it was time for dinner, I didn’t have time to cook, and nothing sounded good to me except for one thing.
Dessert.
I went to an ice cream shop for dinner and enjoyed a chocolate, caramel, cookie crumble, way too many calories for me concoction that was oh so good. I enjoyed every spoonful and as I did, I pondered this question: Why is something this good always served last at a meal? Is it because we enjoy the anticipation of what is to come? Must we long for the satisfaction of that last sweet taste?
It just so happens I was talking with a friend last week about things like heaven, the Lord’s return and the anticipation surrounding the day we are reunited with Him. It is all very much like dessert – a moment in time when all will finally be made right. The apostle John writes this in Revelation 21:4: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” That day will be far better than any dessert. The best is yet to come.
