What Day Is It?

Burning Question:

It’s National Honesty Day!  What is a great story of honesty in your life?

Morning Devotional:

It has been kind of nice to see and hear the Canadian geese return to our area. Even though they are noisy and can make a mess of a good yard, I think they are beautiful birds.

My former home was next to a lake where I could watch all sorts of waterfowl all throughout the year. I loved watching the Canadian geese there, but I also enjoyed various types of ducks, heron, even a crane or two would drop by. Add to that the variety of birds that visited my deck and you would wonder if they had their own air traffic control system. Or GPS, for that matter, as some birds return to the same place or even the same nest each year.

When it comes to your journey with the Lord, do you know where you’re going or when?  Birds have it pre-programmed as to when to migrate and where to find home. You and I, on the other hand, can wander off course very easily and sometimes do. The prophet Jeremiah picks up on this when he writes, “Even the stork in the sky knows when it is time to move on.  The turtledove, swallow and the crane recognize the normal times for their migration.  But My people pay no attention to what I, the Lord, require of them.” (Jeremiah 8:7) The people thought they were doing fine in possessing the Law of God, but they continually turned to their own individual course rather than following God’s way.

I wish obeying God was as instinctive for me as migration is for birds. I do not want to make the same mistake as the Israelites did. I want to listen for Him, hear His voice and obey it in every way I can. Hopefully you want to do the same.
