What Day Is It?

Burning Question:

It’s National Immigrant Day!  What is your favorite thing about your heritage?

Morning Devotional:

Last week I received a gift basket filled with things I would likely need to survive our Share week. There were throat lozenges, tissues, chocolates, and a huge bag of a snack I have not had in a long time – white cheddar cheese popcorn.

I love popcorn, but white cheddar cheese popcorn is my weakness.  I resisted the temptation to open the bag for as long as I could but on Saturday morning, I gave in. A small handful of popcorn wouldn’t hurt anything, right? Before I knew it, two-thirds of the bag was gone.

A moment of mindless snacking had left me satisfied for only a short while. The next morning, the rest of the popcorn was gone and I was craving more. How often do we do that in our spiritual lives? We chase after things that we think will satisfy us, only to find ourselves starving again. We need to be chasing after the Lord, the one who promises in John 10 that if we follow Him, we will have life abundant and to the full.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:6 that “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.“ I say we let Him fill us up.
