What Day is it?

Burning Question:

It’s National Streaming Day!  You’re starting a podcast – what’s it about?

Morning Devotional:

I heard a fascinating statistic the other day. Did you know the average person makes over 35,000 choices per day?

I even put that statistic to the test last night, counting the number of choices I made in a ten-minute period of time. Between the number of reps in my exercise routine, what I was going to make for dinner and what my task list was going to be today, I lost count. Thirty-five thousand choices per day is entirely possible.

With the thousands of choices that are set before us, there is one that is more important than all of the rest. It’s so important that it determines the course of our lives.

What is that choice? Who you will follow and serve.

It’s the choice Joshua set before the Israelites in Joshua chapter 24. The Israelites were surrounded by nations who worshiped idols. They had even fallen into idolatry themselves. In this pivotal point in their history, Joshua has this to say to the people:

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)

Every Israelite had to decide whether their loyalty would lie with the Lord or with the ‘gods’ of the nations. The same choice is before you and me every day, and it’s an important one. It changes what we do each day, how we take on tasks and how we relate to other people.

The Lord wants you to serve Him with everything you are and in everything you do. So, who will you serve today?  The choice is yours.
