Burning Question:
What Bible story always encourages you when you’re going through a tough time?
Morning Devotional:
My puppy, Abbie, experienced her first big scare during a thunderstorm last night. One moment she was happily chewing her toys when suddenly, a loud boom of thunder hit. It wasn’t an ordinary clap of thunder, either – it shook the house and everything in it! It also sent her scrambling into my lap, shaking. I just held her tightly, telling her over and over that she was okay. In the safety of my embrace her trembling eventually stopped, and she went back to her play time.
It struck me how often I react the same way. Life is going along smoothly and then suddenly, boom—a problem, a worry, an anxiety hits me and rattles me to the core. My immediate reaction is to run and hide.
In those moments, God invites me to do what my puppy did: run to my Master. He is my safe place, my fortress in the storm. When I let Him hold me, the scary noises of the world begin to fade. The Bible reminds us, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7). When I’m resting in His arms, He replaces my panic with His peace and my trembling with His strength.
