Morning Devotional:
Every New Year’s Day, Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan publishes an annual list of “banished” words. These are words or phrases the university has determined are frequently misused, overused or lost their meaning over the past year.
The university received over 2,000 nominations from as far away as Namibia and Ukraine to include in this year’s list. The top ten winners on the list included words such as “rizz” and “slay” – terms I am more than happy to see disappear. Others are more debatable. They are “hack,” “impact,” “at the end of the day,” “iconic,” “cringe-worthy,” “obsessed,” “side hustle,” and “wait for it….”
That’s the one that got me. Wait for it.
We’ve turned that phrase into a comedic element, a way to emphasize that what’s coming next is funny or foolish. But for those who have been waiting for an answer to a prayer or waiting for a move from the Lord, the phrase isn’t always that humorous.
Here’s the good news, though. The command to “wait for it” comes with a promise for us. Habakkuk 2:3 says this: “For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.”
Rest assured, the Lord has an answer for your prayer. God’s promise for you is coming. Wait for it.
