Burning Question:
How do you intentionally build relationships in your church or community?
Morning Devotional:
I have a co-worker who is in need of some refrigerator space this week and since I have a far bigger refrigerator than I need, I volunteered to clear out space in mine so she can bring over what she needs to keep cold. Before she comes, I have been making an effort to get rid of the majority of what I have stored in the fridge.
The jug of skim milk was finished off pretty easily. So was the head of lettuce and the leftover hot dish. The carton of eggs? Egg salad sandwich for lunch. I made my way through most of my refrigerator last night, either plotting my next meal or snacking on what I could get rid of quickly. Before I knew it, my belly was full. Too full, in fact. I wasn’t that hungry to begin with and my binge meant I didn’t feel well the rest of the evening.
We as humans hunger for a lot of things, and I’m not just talking about food. We hunger for connection, companionship, validation, all sorts of things that we think will satisfy us but ultimately don’t. What will satisfy our hunger is the Lord.
Jesus says this in Matthew 5:6: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.“ If we make the Lord the object of our longing and pursue His righteousness, He promises to satisfy us. He promises hope, joy, and life that is not only abundant but eternal. Pursue Him and you will find your cup overflows. Anything else we may try to satisfy us will fall far short.
