Morning Devotional:
No matter what I’m doing, my little puppy, Abbie, just wants to be near me.
If I’m working from home, she is under my desk or under my feet. If I’m on the couch, she is right next to me with her head in my lap. She is hardly ever content just being in the same room as me; she wants to connect with me. Last night, she was especially clingy. While I was at my kitchen table, she came and rested her head against my knee, looked at me with those big brown eyes and let out a soft sigh. No demanding bark for a walk or a treat – it was like this little plea that said, “Just be with me for a moment.”
I couldn’t resist the look on her little face. I stopped what I was doing, stroked her fur and as I did, she was suddenly at peace. It reminded me how I should approach my relationship with God. It’s easy to make my prayers with lists of wants, but sometimes the deepest need of my heart is simply to be near Him. James 4:8 says to “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.” The ultimate reward we have been given is the gift of His presence, the assurance that our Master is right there with us.
