Burning Question:
What was the best school lunch item, homemade or cafeteria, that you still think about today?
Morning Devotional:
I was in my back yard yesterday afternoon enjoying some quiet time when I noticed my lilac bush.
It was beautiful earlier this year, chock full of blossoms, thanks to my mother’s pruning job on it last fall. As I inspected the bush yesterday, I realized the time was coming quickly to prune the bush again and I wondered if I would have the same capable skill my mom did to ensure its success next spring. I really want that bush to bloom like crazy next year.
As I made a mental note to add the pruning job to my to-do list, I began thinking about another pruning season – the times when He trims away the unnecessary things in our lives. Some of those things might be sinful, and some might not, such as a commitment, a habit, or a comfortable routine. It’s in those moments when I am most grateful for Jesus’s words in John 15:2, that every branch that bears fruit, the Father “prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” What may feel like a loss in the immediate is actually His loving preparation for your more abundant future.
