Morning Devotional:
An artist was commissioned to paint a portrait of Alexander the Great. When he started the portrait, he realized he had a dilemma. From a wound he had in battle, the king had a visible scar on one cheek leaving him to wonder if he should paint the scar or leave it out. The solution was simple – he had the king pose with his hand raised to his face in thoughtful reflection, easily covering the scar.
I personally have scars that I actively try and hide. I have two on my forehead that are conveniently covered by my hair. But the scar of my sinfulness? They are not as easily covered on my own. But our gracious God came up with a solution for that. He asked His Son to take care of all of humanity’s sins by going to the cross. He didn’t just hide them, either – Jesus performed radical surgery. Because of what He did, there isn’t even a hint of our sins left. Only a whole lot of forgiveness and healing remain.
