What Day is it?

Burning Question:

What is something normal that we do now that would be weird back in the day?

Morning Devotional:

Last night, I was about to take my puppy out for a walk when the latch on my screen door broke. Bad timing for both of us, as the way the latch broke trapped us both inside the house. I jiggled the handle and pushed on the frame, growing more frustrated that the way was blocked. After a minute of useless effort, I stopped and just looked at the problem. Then, an idea struck. I grabbed a roll of masking tape from the counter, tore off a piece, and used it to hold the broken latch in the open position. Just like that, the door swung free.

It made me think about the ‘closed doors’ in my life. So often, I try to force my way through with my own strength, pushing against a problem the same old way. But sometimes, the solution isn’t about brute force. It’s about a new approach.

My little masking tape moment reminded me of God’s promise in Isaiah 43:19: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

Maybe the answer to your closed door isn’t for God to fix the old, broken way. Maybe He wants to show you a new way of doing things, or a ‘new thing’ you hadn’t perceived. He doesn’t always remove the obstacles in our way. Sometimes He allows them in order to prove His faithfulness to us by carving an unexpected path right through the middle of them.
