What day is it?

Burning Question:

What most refreshes your soul?

Morning Devotional:

I had to take a quick trip home to see my parents on Monday and of course, my puppy went with me. Abbie has come to enjoy riding in the car with me, but there are some experiences she has yet to encounter. One of those experiences came on our road trip to Wisconsin.

I was driving up Highway 169 when we ran into a hailstorm. The hail was pounding on the car, the rain was coming down in sheets – and my Abbie was in the passenger seat, absolutely terrified! She was shaking, yelping, and trying to claw her way out of the tether in her car seat and into my arms. It took quite a while after the hail subsided to calm her down again.  When we ran into heavy rain on the way home, just the sound of the rain hitting the roof of the car sent her into panic mode all over again.

When fear strikes, our instinct is to turn to a place of safety and shelter. We live in a scary place and these can be scary times, so isn’t it good to know that we have a place where we can go when we are afraid?  We can “dwell in the shelter of the Most High” and “rest in the shadow of the Almighty” as it says in Psalm 91.  We can make this declaration, too, from Psalm 27:1: “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?”
