Burning Question:
Tell us you’re from the Midwest without telling us you’re from the Midwest!
Morning Devotional:
I was sitting at my Mom and Dad’s kitchen table yesterday when I suddenly gained an audience. At my side were two dogs vying for my attention and my ham sandwich.
My puppy, Abbie, had planted both of her front paws on my thigh, and Molly – Mom and Dad’s bichon mix – had perched her head right next to them. Their ears were perked, their big brown eyes were locked on my face, and every part of their beings were straining for a bite of my meal. My response to this was one word. “No.”
This began the most interesting conversation I think I have ever had with the canine species. My simple “no” caused four ears to drop, two sighs and two heads to lean in closer, all perfectly timed as if to ask, “Are you sure?”
“You’re not getting my sandwich,” I replied, which was followed by two heads tilting sharply to the left, the two dogs moving as one.
“Do you honestly think you’re getting a bite of this?” Two heads switched over to the right, again in near perfect unison.
This went on for a couple of minutes, until I finally relented and gave them some of my sandwich. How could I not, since they were working so hard to communicate with their master?
Do we listen for God’s voice and take in His Word with that same intensity? As Proverbs 22:17 tells us, “Pay attention and turn your ear to the sayings of the wise; apply your heart to what I teach.”
To me, that was Abbie and Molly, turning their ears and throwing themselves into the task of listening and learning. Let’s be eager to hear and understand what our Father is saying to us. The reward is definitely worth it.
