What Day is it?

Burning Question:

No Burning Question today – happy Labor Day!

Morning Devotional:

I love being able to go home for a long holiday weekend for one big reason. I don’t have to cook.

There’s something really great about going home to my parents’ place, being able to sit at the same kitchen table I sat at as a child and eating my mother’s meatloaf, or her spaghetti hot dish. It always takes me back to that place of peace and safety. When we sit down for a meal, we not only eat, but we laugh, we reminisce – we take in that which is good. The old adage is true – “a meal shared nurtures the soul.”

In the gospels, there is a very important meal that takes place that not only nurtured souls but anchored the early church in the great sacrifice Jesus made for us. On the night He was betrayed, Jesus took bread and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is my body, which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” That’s a meal that not only nurtures my soul but also brings me to a place of worship and praise to the One who gave His life for me.
