Morning Devotional:

I have a friend who recently had surgery on her hand a few days ago and yesterday she was in a bit of a bind. She needed the bandage on her hand re-wrapped, she couldn’t do it by herself, and she needed someone who wasn’t squeamish at the sight of her incision to help her change her dressing. An easy task for me – I had the same surgery and I’ve seen it all before. I have even shown her the scars from my previous hand surgeries. I’m not afraid to show them off. To me, they are no big deal – just a reminder of past pain that trained medical professionals have cured for me.

When I think of scars on someone’s hands, I think of Jesus but I also think of the apostle Thomas.  In John chapter 20, he just would not believe that Jesus, his friend and teacher had raised from the dead until he could see the nail marks in his hands.  When Jesus appeared to the disciples, He obliged and all of Thomas’ doubts were silenced. All he could say was, “My Lord and my God.”

If you were to see Jesus’ nail-scarred hands right now, what would your response be?  Let it be this: “Jesus, I believe.”
