Morning Devotional:

Last Thursday the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities issued a very interesting weather warning – a worm warning. Issued on Twitter, the warning stated that “Areas along and south of I-94 can expect to see, smell, and step on many worms this morning. Proceed with caution.” The warning was issued as a joke because of the rainy weather we’ve been experiencing but when I went home the next day, I found something interesting – a huge live earthworm crawling across the middle of my kitchen floor. I happened to do some traveling over the weekend and what did I come home last night to find?  Not one, but a small army of the creepy crawlers winding their way on the floor around my dining room table.

I’m pretty sure I know how the little critters found their way into my home and believe me, I worked hard to seal up the spot so they wouldn’t get in again. But this certainly showed me how easily our enemy can work his way into our lives. Satan can find the smallest opening and wreak havoc in our day so quickly so we have to do what the apostle Peter tells us to do in 1 Peter 5:8 – to “be alert and vigilant, because your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” Don’t let the enemy worm his way into your day. Be on the alert, and when you see him, don’t let him in!
