What Day Is It?

Burning Question:

What DIY home project did you bravely take on yourself, and how did it go?

Morning Devotional:

So I broke down and did it, a couple of days earlier than normal. I put Christmas away.

For the first time ever, the artificial tree folded down nicely and actually fit into its box. The Christmas decor items went into their respective boxes and before long, my house looked like the epitome of “normal.”  No holly, ivy, poinsettias or elves anywhere. The house was back to normal.

Normal, and very bland. I was missing the joy of the season, and I felt I needed to do something to get it back. But what? A glance through Luke chapter two gave me a clue.

Luke reminds us that the shepherds didn’t just return to their fields – they told everyone what they had seen. Mary took all of the things she had learned and pondered them in her heart, as if to prepare to take up her role in Jesus’ story. The wonder of Christ’s birth is to give way to life’s greatest adventure – the call to follow the Savior.

It’s tempting to return to “business as usual” and forget the wonder of Jesus’ birth. The decorations may be gone but the assignment is not. Our job is to take the Light out of the living room and into the world. Let’s not pack Jesus away.
