Burning Question:
It’s Cyber Monday. When did an online purchase go really Wrong?
Morning Devotional:
He is going to leave…
It’s a strange season at our house with my oldest son, Malachi. It’s college admission season. He’s a bright kid, strong test scores, and the colleges have noticed. Every day the mailbox is full of brochures, letters, and promises from schools trying to win him over. And I can see it wearing on him—because it’s a lot. A lot to process, a lot to pray about, and a lot to decide.
College isn’t for everyone, but it’s probably in his future. He’s applied for some excellent scholarships, and today is the day he hears back from a few of them. Through all of it, I’ve been impressed—not just with his drive or his work ethic—but with the way he has genuinely placed it in God’s hands.
It reminds me of Proverbs 3:5–6:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
As a parent, it’s easy to want to jump in and steer, to control the outcome, to cushion the landing. But this season has reminded me that our kids ultimately walk their own path with the Lord. Our job is to raise them, guide them, pray over them, and then—little by little—release them.
Malachi may be getting ready to leave, but he’s not walking alone. And neither are we. The same God who has guided him this far is the God who will guide him into the future. And the same God who steadies him will steady our hearts, too, as we watch our children take their next steps.
May we all have the courage to trust God with what we treasure most.
