What Day is it?

Burning Question:

What is something you were better at as a four-year-old than you are now?

Morning Devotional:

I was out of the office last Thursday and Friday because my puppy, Abbie, had surgery. She was not only spayed, but she also had two teeth extracted and an oddly formed dew claw removed. She was not a happy puppy camper.

I had to laugh when the vet tech gave me her discharge instructions. The document stated in black and white, “Abbie needs to stay quiet for two weeks after her surgery.” They clearly don’t know my dog, because I don’t believe Abbie knows the meaning of the word. Not even the Elizabethan-style cone of shame she is being forced to wear is slowing her down.

Now I’ve received similar instructions from physicians after I have had surgeries over the years. Those times may have slowed me down physically, but they didn’t exactly quiet my heart or my spirit. Getting quiet before the Lord is one of the greatest struggles I deal with every day.

My life can be very fast paced and honestly, I like it that way. But I know that if I forget to stop, clear away the distractions and set my heart and mind on connecting with God, I go off the rails. If that’s you as well, I say we take this command from Psalm 46:10 to heart: “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
