The Burning Question:
It’s April Fool’s Day. What’s the best April Fool’s Day idea you’ve ever heard?
Morning Devotional:
A friend of mine who serves as a pastor offered up a confession on one of his social media accounts last night that summed up what I was feeling about my own Easter season.
He spoke of how he was in a stressed and distracted mood getting ready for all of the events of Holy Week. The usual tasks of Holy Week, such as getting sermons done and making sure all of the necessities of all of the various services taking place over the week were wearing on him. There had been an unusual press of what he called “pastoral matters” that required his attention over the past few days. Add to the church duties, the home responsibilities and the stresses of traveling for visits to see family members.
My pastor friend was quickly crumbling under the strain. That is, until he felt the Holy Spirit nudge him with this: “Do you think Jesus might have experienced some of this, or more, on the night He was making preparations for his last Passover meal with his disciples?”
Personally, I have to believe yes, He did.
John 13:1 says, “Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.” What a blessing to know Jesus understands us. What a greater blessing to know that we are forgiven.
