Burning Question:
What is the worst invention that you can think of?
Morning Devotional:
Pick Two Emojis
My wife came up with a genius idea to shake up our dinner conversations. We often ask the kids to share about their day, but after a while it had gotten a little routine, almost predictable. So she bought a small wall hanging filled with different emojis.
Now instead of just saying, “How was your day?” we ask, “Pick two emojis and tell us why.”
It has been really good.
We get everything from the tired emoji, to the happy one, to the frustrated face, sometimes all in the same meal. And what is interesting is how much more it opens things up. A simple picture seems to unlock deeper conversations than a simple question sometimes does.
It made me think about how often we try to simplify or summarize what is really going on in our hearts. “I’m fine.” “It was okay.” “Nothing much.”
But underneath that, there is usually more going on than we are willing to say.
Psalm 62 8 says, “Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.”
God is not looking for polished answers or surface-level responses. He invites honesty. Real feelings. Real struggles. Real joy.
So maybe the better question for our hearts is not just, “How was your day?” but, “What is really going on inside you?”
Because sometimes healing starts when we finally stop saying “I’m fine,” and start telling the truth before God and the people who love us.
