What Day Is It?

Burning Question:

What is something that is over-rated?

Morning Devotional:

When was the last time you were in Ziklag? The biblical town is often representative of a season of desperation and for me, it was about 5:00 yesterday afternoon.

I was sitting in my car, overwhelmed by what was going on around me, praying the only prayer I could: “Lord, what do you want me to do about this?” It turns out that was the right prayer, one that David himself prayed when everything was falling apart around him.

In 1 Samuel chapter 30, David returns home to Ziklag to find his home destroyed, his family taken captive, and his leadership questioned. At that moment, David does two things. David “strengthened himself in the Lord,” and asked God what to do next. Instead of panicking or acting out of emotion, David sought God, and that one question changed everything. He received clarity, confirmation and courage, and all that had been taken from him was restored.

When you’re in your own Ziklag, you have access to strategy, and it starts by turning your face toward God and praying, “Lord, what do You want me to do?”
