Burning Question:
What is something Jesus has done for you this week?
Morning Devotional:
If you ever need a masterclass in getting your way, enlist my dog.
My Abbie is not subtle when she asks for a taste of my dinner. She pounds her paws on my leg, whines like a baby Chewbacca, and locks her sad brown eyes onto mine. She doesn’t care if I’m busy or distracted—she wants a taste of my food and she won’t stop until she gets some.
This dog is very much an example of the persistent widow in Luke 18. Jesus told us that the widow’s persistence was to be a model for our faith. He invites us into a persistent prayer relationship where we go to Him with our needs and keep coming back to place our requests in His lap. Just as I relent and give Abbie a bite of my dinner, God will answer your requests as well. I did it for Abbie because of love, and so will God. It’s not “annoying” God into helping us, either. It’s all about the intimacy that grows when we refuse to look anywhere else to meet our needs.
