What Day Is It?

Burning Question:

What is your favorite Easter tradition?

Morning Devotional:

I love being able to hear birds outside this time of year. Birdsongs are a sure sign of spring and boy, have I needed it. I’m still waiting to see my first robin of the spring but a couple of days ago, I saw something better.

My next door neighbors make a habit of feeding birds every day. They will put out suet, birdseed, anything that will attract and retain the birds for as long as possible. The other day, I saw a group of small finches on my neighbor’s patio. In the middle of the finches, one bright red cardinal.

The finches were adorable but my eye was drawn to the cardinal. It was bigger than the rest of the birds around it, and its color was striking. The bright red feathers on this boy certainly made him stand out from the crowd.

The scene brought to my mind the words of Romans 12:2: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” We are so often tempted to blend into the things of this world when God is calling us to stand out as Christ followers.

Just as the cardinal’s bright color caught my eye, our distinctness as followers of Christ should also be noticeable to those around us. We are to be about living with integrity, love, and a spirit that reflects the light and love of God. What are you doing to stand out for Him?
