Morning Devotional:

I think the greatest difficulty I have with my faith in God has to do with timing. God simply doesn’t move on my timetable.

I was pondering this albeit obvious quandary about faith while I was on hold waiting to talk to someone at my doctor’s office. Repeating in my ear was the ever popular but hardly ever welcome message, “Your call is important to us. Please wait on the line and a representative will be with you shortly.” Sometimes we’ll get an estimated wait time message after that which sometimes helps, but when it comes to waiting on the Lord, we are rarely privvy to that kind of information.

I had to chuckle when I watched a sermon online yesterday on this very subject. In the message, the pastor encouraged believers to have faith like crock pots. In this get-it-now, instant gratification society where satisfaction can be gained as quickly as pushing a button on a microwave, God is calling us to wait for God’s best, letting things come to fruition and full flavor in His timing. That is not an easy thing for me to do. I am a microwave kind of girl and if I don’t see something getting accomplished I get antsy, frustrated and discouraged. But what does God’s Word tell us to do? To patiently wait for Him and rest in the meantime.

Psalm 27:4 says, “Wait for the Lord, be strong and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord.”
