Heaven Invade

Last week I wrote about this sense I have that revival is on the horizon, about to rise over the land like the sun rising over a new day.

I mentioned in that post that there seems to have been an increase in songs about revival.  Then, this past weekend, the lyrics to “Let Your Glory Fall” by Kari Jobe really caught my attention. It begins:

A longing stirs in my soul
Draws me near
Calls me close

Bingo. Yes. That’s exactly what I was trying to say.

The lyrics ask that the Lord’s glory would fall us on us like rain and then verse four is:

Deep is calling to deep
Revival’s tide, breaking free
Jesus, reign in this place
Thirsty we cry, heaven invade

Heaven invade.

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Heaven invade.

The Bible records Jesus mentioning the “Kingdom of God” or the “Kingdom of Heaven” about one hundred times. Clearly, it’s important or it wouldn’t have been such a frequent topic with our Lord.

In fact, the case can be made that the Kingdom of Heaven was the topic Jesus was all about. His birth, His life, His crucifixion, and His resurrection were all about the Kingdom of Heaven coming to this earth. When the King of heaven left His throne and came down to earth, it changed everything.

But we so easily forget.

After a week of Hugh Hefner, Harvey Weinstein, girls becoming Boy Scouts, and the malevolent, malignant maelstrom that our culture has become in the kingdom that calls itself One Nation Under God, I am tempted to wonder if there is any hope for us at all.

And then I remember that Jesus said His kingdom was not of this world. (John 18:36)

I remember that the kingdom of God is the rule of an eternal, sovereign God over all the universe. God is indeed the undeniable Monarch of all creation.

It’s all His.

We were children of the darkness, but we have been transformed. We are children of the light. We have been adopted into His kingdom and are heirs to the inheritance that is ours in the Kingdom of Heaven forever.

So, yes Lord, let heaven invade. Let your kingdom come, let your will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Boldly now will I come
Before Your Throne Holy one
By Your thunderous grace
Spirit flood, come flood this place

AMEN

Today’s Praise

“The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all” (Psalm 103:9)
