Morning Devotional:
Architect Frank Lloyd Wright was challenged to build the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, Japan – one of the most earthquake prone cities in the world. As Wright explored the site for the building, he determined that a solid foundation could be floated on a 60-foot layer of soft mud underneath the hotel, which would
provide shock absorbing properties yet still be a solid support for the massive building. Shortly after the building was completed, it withstood a magnitude 7.9 earthquake – the worst earthquake in 52 years – while many buildings around it fell.
Frank Lloyd Wright was praised for his innovative design, but his design wasn’t flawless. The shallow foundation that was supposed to float on loose, wet soil began to sink into the silt over the next 40 years and by 1968, the building had to be demolished.
In construction, there is nothing more important than building on a solid foundation. If the foundation is solid, what is built on top of it has a much better chance of turning out right. The concept holds true in our spiritual lives as well. Jesus tells us in Luke chapter six, “Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.”
When you build your life on the foundation that is Jesus Christ, you will stand firm.
