Burning Question:
What is your go-to quote?
Morning Devotional:
I am dog-sitting for a couple who are on vacation for the next week or so and it has been a joy to have a canine companion in my house again, even if only for a short time. I’ve had him now for a few days and for being a senior dog, he has a lot of spunk. He plays with toys, he likes to go on walks, he’s even quite talkative.
I think he’s also a bit homesick.
Over the past two days, I have caught him sniffing a tote bag left by his owners, as if he needs to recall their smell. He often sleeps by the front door, the last place where he saw his human parents. I have also caught him looking toward the door with that certain look in his eye, a stare that begs the question, “I wonder when they’ll be back.”
I’ve asked the same question of my heavenly Father about His Son.
As Jesus prepared His disciples for his eventual crucifixion in John 14, He shares that He is going to His Father’s house to prepare a place for them, and that He will come back and take them to be with Him. Though they didn’t quite understand it at the moment, that comfort carried the disciples through the many trials they faced when they took His message around the world.
My canine houseguest is waiting patiently for his masters to come back and take him home. As believers, we wait patiently as well, knowing the promise of His return is true and imminent.
