The Burning Question:
What molehill became a mountain for you?
Morning Devotional:
Last weekend I helped my mother purchase a new cell phone. I knew going in this would be a risky venture, as my mom is not the most technologically savvy person in the world. Frankly, neither am I, but as a family we decided the reasons for the upgrade were valid and the two of us came home on Saturday with a shiny new phone for my mom with all of the bells and whistles.
I spent Saturday evening taking most of the bells and whistles off of that phone to make it as simple as possible for my mother to use, and spent Sunday helping her learn how to use it. I left my parents pretty confident they had everything down pat but last night, Mom got pretty tripped up on the basics of smartphone operation. Trying to tell her over the phone how to send a text message was a pretty big ordeal.
What my mom really needed was a complete set of step-by-step instructions on how to do the basic operations on her new phone – how to do things like find a contact, make a call, send a text message and how to adjust the volume. Given how much she was getting flustered, I could sympathize. How often do we ask for the full step-by-step instructions from God on what’s next in our lives? All the time! When I don’t get those instructions, I get frustrated as well.
In those times when we don’t understand what God has next for us, our job is to do what it says in Proverbs 3: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” It’s not always an easy task but we can always trust in the one who wrote the manual.
