Morning Devotional:
Over our recent long weekend I decided to do something I normally wouldn’t do. I decided to do some baking. I was in the mood for cookies and thanks to a friend who gave me an excess of a flavor of baking chips I have never used before, I opted to use a recipe I have never attempted before.
I was a bit under the weather at the time so I wasn’t wearing my contact lenses that day, instead opting for a pair of older glasses. The recipe looked easy enough so I wasn’t too concerned and it wasn’t long before my kitchen looked like an episode of Mission: Impossible.
When the oven timer went off, I pulled the first batch of cookies out to cool, thinking I did a pretty good job. But then I tasted one. They were horrible. Upon further inspection, I had transposed the amounts of a couple of the ingredients, turning my cookies into an experiment gone wrong. Thankfully, I had enough ingredients for a second batch and those cookies turned out much better.
For me, baking of any kind takes a tried and true recipe, and careful attention to the instructions. To succeed in the race of faith, the same holds true. We need to follow the instructions given to us by God through his Word. Let’s make sure we’re faithfully reading it.
