What Day Is It?

Burning Question:

It is World Read Aloud Day!  What is a passage of scripture that comes alive when read aloud?

Morning Devotional:

Sitting in my bedroom is an old, plain wooden box. It used to be a toy box that my grandparents had in their home when I was a child. My mom painted it years ago, but I have had it in my mind to strip the paint and restore the box to its former glory.

It has sat in my bedroom for nearly 20 years, in two different homes, untouched.

I’m not very skilled in the do-it-yourself department and I have yet to figure out how to best start the project of restoring that box. My perfectionistic mind has concluded that if I can’t do the job right, then I probably shouldn’t do it at all.

Perfectionism has a tendency to tell us that if we don’t achieve flawless execution on something, then we may as well consider ourselves failures. I certainly felt that way until I received some very good advice: When attempting a task, remind yourself that even if you blow it, God still loves you.

In 2 Corinthians chapter 12, the apostle Paul has this to say about being okay with our imperfections. “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

Wouldn’t we want God’s power to flow in our day over our own?  If God’s power is made perfect in our weakness, then we shouldn’t shy away from our imperfections. Instead, we can lean on the Lord and choose to delight in our imperfections. That is a perfect plan!
