Morning Devotional:
I knew the day wasn’t going to be an easy one. I knew it before I even crawled out of bed. I was in for a big fight of faith and I was feeling like I was already on the losing end of things. A rough way to start the day, I know. However, I had been gifted that morning with the gift of time – time to huddle up with God, pray, read the Word, build myself up in my faith and get ready for the battle. Once I got moving in the day I found myself surprisingly encouraged and I realized by the evening I had overcome my battle and somehow found victory in it.
I shouldn’t have been surprised, because I had figured out what David did so much in his walk of faith. He strengthened himself in the Lord, and there’s a great example of this in 1 Samuel. In 1 Samuel 30:6, David found himself greatly distressed because the people were talking about having him stoned. The people were grieving over losses sustained in a battle David had led. This did not bode well for David at all, but the word says David encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord. When we are faced with an uphill battle or a situation we know is not going to be easy, that’s what we have to do, too. We have to look to Him as our refuge and our strength.
In David’s greatest battles, he didn’t listen to his naysayers. David listened to the Word of God, and the One who brought him victory. We should do the same.
