Morning Devotional:
I got caught up in some activities at home yesterday evening and before I knew it, I looked out my window to see that the sun had gone down. It was earlier than I thought, too – just before 8:30 pm. I decided to start getting ready for bed but before I did, I thought I would look up the schedule of sunsets over the past several weeks on the internet. Did you know that since June 21st – the summer solstice – sunset is now happening exactly one hour earlier? Our daylight hours are already that much shorter.
I found myself mourning that extra hour of sunshine. I had missed my window to take a bike ride or a long walk, and I had really wanted to get out and enjoy some one-on-one time with my Lord in His creation while it was still day.
Late last night, I pulled out a devotional that reminded me I didn’t need that extra hour in the sun to enjoy time with God. Second Corinthians 4:6 says, “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.” If I’m truly walking as a follower of Jesus, His light is shining through me. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
