What Day Is It?

The Burning Question:

What is your go-to stress reliever?

Morning Devotional:

“Just say the word and I’ll be there.”

Have you ever said the phrase, “say the word” to someone? I overheard it said at church the other day in reference to a story in the scriptures and for some reason, it stuck with me – so much that I decided to look it up online. Did you know that the Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary and Thesaurus has a definition for the phrase? The book defines “say the word” as telling someone that you will do what they want at the time they ask for.

We hear the phrase spoken in the story of the Roman centurion whose servant was dying in Matthew chapter eight. Jesus was approached by this man who pleaded with him to save his servant’s life. He offered to go to the centurion’s home but instead, the centurion offered a surprising reply:

Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.”

It happened just as the centurion asked. The servant was healed at that very moment, Jesus commended him for his great faith, and the lesson is one for posterity. When we have faith in Him, and trust that it is by His word that all things are accomplished, all things are possible. May we be a people of unshakeable faith.
