The Burning Question:
What do you like to Splurge on?
Morning Devotional:
Sometimes, the experience is worth it. Have you tried to take the family out for ice cream lately? Wow… it doesn’t matter where you go, even fast food feels expensive. We took most of our kids out for ice cream—not sure if my oldest daughter was with us—but it still came to around $30. And you know me… I’m doing frugal math, thinking about how much ice cream we could buy at the store for $30—so much. But the kids made a point to say, “Thanks, Dad!”
There’s something about getting ice cream at an actual ice cream shop that makes it an experience, making it worth it. The joy on their faces, the laughter, and the shared moments are priceless. It reminds me that sometimes, it’s not about the cost but the memories we create.
In the Bible, we find a beautiful reminder of the importance of cherishing these moments. Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 (NIV) says, “I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.”
So, let’s remember that while we strive to be wise with our resources, it’s also important to invest in experiences that bring joy and create lasting memories. These moments are gifts from God, enriching our lives and strengthening our bonds with each other. Next time you’re debating whether to splurge a little, think about the joy and connection it might bring. Sometimes, the experience truly is worth it.
