Morning Devotional:
I have a friend who I have to say is the most exuberant person I have ever met. Exuberant is the best word to describe her, too. She is overly enthusiastic, full of joy, and she makes it a point to live her life out loud, especially when it comes to her faith in God. When I’m with her it’s kind of scary because I never know what she’s going to do from one moment to the next. We may be quietly shopping in a department store one moment and then the next thing I know, she will belt out some kind of praise song to God and lead all the cashiers to Christ. I admire that in her, and at times I have been a bit envious of her joy in the Lord.
I asked her once, “How do you walk around with such energy and passion for God?” “Easy,” she said. “I make it a point to remember these things: I’m not the person I was before I knew the Lord, I never will be again, His mercy is new every day, I can have all the grace He gives me, Jesus is my best friend and my salvation is my greatest joy. It doesn’t get better than that.” I will never forget that lesson. Sometimes we need that spark of life in our walk with Him. We need to pray the prayer in Psalm 51:12, “restore to me the joy of Your salvation.” When we know what we truly have in Jesus Christ, I don’t know how we could ever let our walks with Him grow stale again.
