What Day Is It?

The Burning Question:

You suddenly have an extra hour to kill. What are you going to do with it?

Morning Devotional:

It’s been a while since I’ve reported on the critter situation at home and I’m thrilled to share that it has been about two weeks since I have seen any evidence of mice in my house. I did have a moment last night when I was pretty sure that wasn’t the case.

I was working at my desk when I heard a noise coming from the kitchen. It was a noise that sounded mysteriously like one of the traps I had set in the hopes of catching one of those little rodent beasts. Terror quickly set in, and it was everything I could do to open the cabinet under the sink to check the trap.

It was empty. I had no reason to fear, and I stood there stunned at how quickly my evening had turned from peace to panic.

We can be so easily overcome by fear, and it is one of the enemy’s most effective weapons against us. Fear is the thing that fuels worry, anxiety, lack of understanding and so much more, to the point where it controls our every move and decision. That is not what God wants of us. Second Timothy 1:7 tells us that God “has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” That sound mind is one that has been delivered and protected and brought into a place of security by the Lord so it no longer has to be affected by outside forces. In Christ, we have everything we need to live life free of fear.
