The Burning Question:
What advice would you give to someone struggling to find hope today?
Morning Devotional:
By the time I got home from work and running errands yesterday, it was approaching the dinner hour and I was unusually tired. Knowing I had some things to accomplish before turning in for the night, I thought the best thing I could do to perk up would be to take a ten- or fifteen-minute power nap. I grabbed an afghan, set an alarm and curled up in my favorite overstuffed chair.
When the alarm went off, I opened my eyes and looked out my window. To my surprise, it was dark! I had missed my window of opportunity to do any of the outdoor activities on my checklist for the evening. No bicycle ride, no cleaning of my flower beds, nothing. The light I needed to do those things had disappeared, and I would have to wait for another day.
I couldn’t let the thought of missing that opportunity go. I haven’t spent any time enjoying the outdoors in days. I also needed some time just enjoying the Lord’s presence, too. Missing that last hour of sunlight was a big reminder of where my priorities need to be.
In John 12:46, Jesus says, “ I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” The Lord called us out of darkness and calls us to relationship with Him, and that’s not just a one-time thing. It’s a daily practice, a lifetime commitment. Let it be our joy to be with Him.
