Morning Devotional:

I knew I was supposed to stop at my friend’s office yesterday afternoon. The stop fit perfectly with my schedule, it was right on my way home and I was feeling that nudge from the Lord to make it happen. So I was a bit surprised to see her office closed when I got there. Wondering what was happening but knowing there was little I could do about it, I ducked into a nearby drug store to run an errand. At the register, I saw my friend’s husband who informed me that his wife was in the car, feeling sick.

I went out to their car to say hello and found out that my friend was indeed very ill. We couldn’t talk long but the reason for the nudging I had received from the Lord became clear – my friend needed prayer! I prayed with her and her husband and they were soon on their way to a local urgent care. As they drove away, I realized the opportunity to offer them ministry would not have happened had I not paid attention to the little whisper in my spirit telling me to stop at my friend’s office a few minutes earlier. My immediate obedience in that moment gave way to God’s will for me in the drug store parking lot.

It takes time in God’s presence and some practice to discern God’s voice but if we are willing sheep, we will learn to trust the Shepherd’s leading. Jesus, our Good Shepherd, tells us in John 10:27, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”  Our Lord not only teaches us to hear Him, but also leads us to the right places to be used for His glory. Let’s be sure to listen to Him and obey!
