Burning Question:
What was the best thing to happen in 2024?
Morning Devotional:
I have a bathroom remodeling project that is starting in my home this week. I’m really excited about it and I’ve been waiting for some time now to get it done. The construction crew is supposed to be at my home later this morning to get started. There was an important step I had forgotten about until shortly before I went to bed last night and realized I hadn’t emptied out the bathroom yet for them to start.
I was scrambling to take out what I needed and move it all to my guest bathroom. I took down the shower curtain, I boxed up all the home decor items and stashed them away. I even cleaned the sink. I’m not sure why – it’s just going to get dusty. It took about a half hour but the room was finally ready for the work to begin.
I realized that the process of cleaning out my bathroom mirrors our spiritual journey. God desires to renovate our lives and transform us into His image, but just as a construction crew needs a clear workspace, God needs a clear heart. Things like our pride, self-sufficiency, and the weight of past hurts in our lives can hinder His work. They all have to be removed and to do that, we have to acknowledge our need for God, surrender our control to Him, and confess our sins.
Don’t be shy about preparing your heart for God’s renovation. Toss out the obstacles of pride and self-sufficiency, and get ready for the beautiful work He is going to accomplish in you.
