The Burning Question:
It’s National Pack Rat Day. What will you never throw away?
Morning Devotional:
Earlier this year I made a commitment to myself to get more exercise. In that spirit, I did something yesterday I have never done before. I took part in my first organized bicycle ride. It ended up being a much longer trip than I expected and my body is pretty sore today but the experience was well worth it.
It was a victory for me personally, too, as a year ago I would have never been able to accomplish what I did. Health issues have kept me sidelined from a lot of things for much of my life, and when I was little, I was never interested in athletics. Seeing the tide change on that has been fun.
I’ve often wondered if the apostle Paul was a sports fan because of the sports analogies in his writings. Take for instance 1 Corinthians, where he writes, “Don’t you know that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.” I won’t be an Olympic bicyclist, that’s for sure – but when it comes to running the race of faith, I’m definitely going to run!
