The Burning Question:
When did you encounter the risen Savior?
Morning Devotional:
It was red, it got me where I needed to go and it was definitely reliable.
The 1979 Ford Granada I got for my 16th birthday was my first set of wheels, and that car got me to a lot of places. Affectionately nicknamed Greta, it was the car I took to college and boy, did I ever make friends because of it! Everyone needed a ride somewhere. My Dad liked that car because it was easy for him to work on and we made a lot of memories around that car. I spent hours watching my Dad change spark plugs, rotate tires, change the oil and do everything else needed to keep my Greta Granada running smoothly.
When I think of the great gifts I have received, though, nothing matches God’s grace. It has to be a gift because no matter what we may try to do to make ourselves presentable to God, we can’t match up. No tune-up or tweak will work. Paul points out in the Word that if we can be made people of God by what we can do, God’s gift of grace wouldn’t be a gift at all. That’s why he makes this point very clear to us in Ephesians 2:8: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
God’s grace and salvation is available for you, because of the blood that was shed for you at the cross by His son Jesus. It’s a free gift. Receive it.
