What Day Is It?

The Burning Question:

It is National Go for Broke Day.  When did you “just go for it?”

Morning Devotional:

Have you ever been 100 percent successful in taking charge of your life? It has never happened to me.

I think all of us struggle with letting God have complete control over our lives. The self-sufficient “I can take care of it myself” streak in me rears its ugly head a lot. I enjoy devising a plan and sticking to it, but God always has something better than my own plan and His ways of getting me to navigate His plan aren’t always the most comfortable.

I was feeling that way when I went to the Word the other night and stumbled on a verse I hadn’t seen before. Jeremiah 10:23 says, “Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps.” That verse points to two important truths we have to accept. One, our lives don’t belong to us; and two, we are not the ones who are ultimately in control of our lives. If the Lord is truly our Lord, we should be surrendering our will and our plans to His. Giving up control to Him isn’t easy but trust me – it’s always worth it.
