What Day Is It?

The Burning Question:

It’s National Pets and Kids Day.  When did your kids and your pets have a memorable moment together?  Tell us the story!

Morning Devotional:

The Canadian geese have returned and in my neck of the woods, that means they are congregating close to the streets near my home. I was trying to drive down a street in my neighborhood when this enormous goose blocked my way. It was standing its ground, occasionally flapping its wings, staring at me for the longest time and refusing to move. I inched my car up closer to the bird but it would not budge. I didn’t want to hurt the goose so I ended up relenting and backing up my car, leaving the bird in place to continue to stand its ground.

As I drove away, thinking it was absolutely crazy that I succumbed to the whims of a goose, I remembered the story that took place in 1 Samuel 17. David was about to go up against a giant named Goliath. David was younger, smaller in stature than the Israelite soldiers and much smaller than the enemy, but he went head-to-head with him anyway.

What gave David the upper hand in this showdown?  The truth: “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands.”  When we find ourselves in a showdown with the enemy, go up against him in the name of the Lord and the strength He provides. When you do, your giants will fall.
